Artists - Dave Cutler
Dave Cutler was born and raised in St. George's, Newfoundland. Working mainly in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator, truck driver and carpenter. Dave's work experiences also included a stint in the logging industry in BC, and part time fisherman and cabinet maker here in Newfoundland. Dave's introduction into the world of painting came just three and a half years ago at the age of 43. Health problems were making it increasingly difficult for him to carry on in the labour field and he could no longer enjoy his favorite hobbies, sailing and gardening. Convinced that a hidden talent lay dormant within him, Dave's wife Blanche enrolled him in a painting class taught by well known Newfoundland artist Lloyd Pretty. Inspired by Lloyd's work, Dave's addiction to art was almost instantaneous and he began to see the world and his surroundings through "different eyes". He has continued to paint whenever he can, improving his skills and techinque through the self teaching method. Dave has also gained inspiration from the work of another well known Newfoundland artist, 'super realist' Brian La Saga, as well from the works of many other artists thoughtout Newfoundland and Labrador. Painting in acrylics, Dave strives for detail and realism in his work. Although children are the center of interest in some of his paintings, his favorite works are seascapes depicting old fishing stages, boats in coves and harbours around Newfoundland.
