Newfoundland Artists - Limited Edition Prints
Jackie Gale-Vaillancourt

Jackie Gale-Vaillancourt was born in Placentia, on the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland, in 1959. Throughout her university studies, which resulted in Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Master of Business Administration degrees, and a career that culminated in the vice presidency of an advertising agency in St. John's, she made an effort to make time for her real passion...art. In August 1997, she completed a Master of Arts in Illustration from Syracuse University in New York and in November 1997, she was elected to membership in the Society of Illustrators in New York City. Jackie's interest in representational art contributes to a style that tends toward realism. Her interest in subject matter is eclectic, ranging from flora... to children at play... to still life ... and landscape. While she has produced award-winning work in acrylic, her primary medium is watercolour. In April 1999, the Royal Canadian Mint issued $100 14 karat gold coins, designed by Jackie, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Newfoundland becoming the tenth province of Canada. She has been recognized by Newfoundland's Lieutenant Governor and Minister of Tourism and Culture for charitable contributions to the Canadian Red Cross Annual Christmas Card Fundraising Campaign, a project which originated in 1992, with the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia branches joining the campaign in 1993. The Christmas Cards featured two of Jackie's paintings. Over the years, she has made a number of art donations to charitable causes, including two watercolours and a 3" X 5" acrylic piece to a Humour Room on the Cancer Ward of a St. John's, Newfoundland hospital. As well, she has contributed to the Newfoundland art community by serving several terms as vice president and president of the Art Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1999, she donated her creative abilities to a number of charities, including a project that benefited the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Newfoundland and Labrador Special Olympics through the creation of a limited edition serigraph of Canada's Larry Walker of the Colorado Rockies. As well, the Lung Associations in Atlantic Canada and Ontario used four of her pieces for the donor notecards. She is a two time winner in the Newfoundland Government sponsored Annual Arts and Letters Competition: the 1993 First Prize Award in Painting for Tropical View (acrylic) and the 1991 Seconf Prize Award for Rope & Wood (watercolour) in the same category. In December 1994, Red Sky Productions published Jackie's first limited edition poster reproductions titled Hand Knit in Newfoundland. The 3000 hand signed and numbered posters, distributed by galleries, frame shops and gift shops, depict the traditional patterns and colours of the gloves and mittens of Newfoundland. In 1995, the Newfoundland Historic Parks Association introduced a poster series titled Memories of Newfoundland featuring Jackie's watercolour paintings. In 1997, Red Sky Productions published One of a Kind and a four piece set titled The Collection. Jackie's most recent posters, Pieces of the Past and Bakeapples, Beets, and Other Treats were introduced in the fall of 2000. Jackie is honoured to have her work hung in many personal and corporate collections, as well as the collection of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador through its annual art procurement program.
